About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Battery Modeling Engineer to lead the development of multiscale physics-based models of lithium-ion batteries. This role is ideal for someone passionate about combining electrochemistry, thermal dynamics, material science, and computational modeling to advance next-generation battery technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across testing, data science, and implementation to ensure models are validated and deployed effectively for real-world applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop physics-based, multiscale electrochemical and thermal models for lithium-ion batteries.
  • Model and simulate electrochemical processes, heat generation, transport, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Apply numerical methods, optimization techniques, and emerging methods (e.g., Physics-Informed Neural Networks / PINNs) for solving complex electrochemical models.
  • Reduce the order of high-fidelity models for embedded implementation and real-time applications.
  • Apply fundamentals of chemical reaction engineering, material science, and heat transfer to simulate battery formation, performance, and safety tests.
  • Validate models by extracting and analyzing data using SQL, Python, or similar tools.
  • Ensure best practices in model version control, documentation, and reproducibility.
  • Work closely with product, testing, and data science teams to integrate models into products and workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD + 2 years, Master’s + 3 years, or Bachelor’s + 5 years of relevant work experience in chemical, mechanical, or thermal engineering (or related fields).
  • Strong expertise in electrochemical modeling, chemical reaction engineering, and transport/thermal simulations.
  • Proficiency with numerical methods and optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, or equivalent data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with model order reduction techniques and embedded systems implementation.
  • Experience in model validation against experimental data.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills to collaborate across teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with machine learning and PINN-based solvers for physical systems.
  • Knowledge of finite element (FEM) or finite volume (FVM) simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, Ansys, OpenFOAM).
  • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS) or safety modeling.
  • Experience working in Agile R&D environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing or HPC environments for large-scale simulations.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge battery innovation in a fast-growing sector.
  • Collaborative and multidisciplinary work environment.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Professional development and growth opportunities.
