Battery Modeling Intern

Uxbridge or Remote

BatAI, a product of EApps Global, is revolutionizing battery performance management with smart, data-driven analytics. Founded in October 2024, BatAI builds on EApps Technologies’ decade-long expertise in IT consulting and product innovation.

About the Role

We are looking for a Battery Modeling Intern to work closely with our Senior Battery Modeling Engineer in developing and validating physics-based and data-driven models of lithium-ion batteries. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in electrochemistry, thermal simulations, numerical methods, and applied data science, while contributing to real projects with industry impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and validation of electrochemical, thermal, and degradation models of lithium-ion batteries.
  • Implement and test numerical solvers and reduced-order models under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Work with Python, SQL, and engineering simulation tools to process and analyze data.
  • Support model validation using experimental datasets from cross-functional teams.
  • Document workflows, maintain version control, and contribute to collaborative modeling efforts.
  • Explore emerging methods such as machine learning and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for battery modeling.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or recently completed a Master’s or PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, applied physics, or related fields.
  • Strong foundation in chemical reaction engineering, transport phenomena, and/or thermal-fluid systems.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods and scientific computing.
  • Basic to moderate proficiency in Python and/or SQL.
  • Ability to learn quickly, document work clearly, and collaborate effectively.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with finite element/volume simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, Ansys, OpenFOAM).
  • Exposure to battery modeling, electrochemistry, or BMS concepts.
  • Interest in data-driven methods (ML, PINNs, reduced-order modeling).

What You’ll Gain

  • Mentorship from experienced senior engineers in advanced battery modeling.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge simulation and validation techniques in the battery industry.
  • Practical experience working across testing, product, and data science teams.
  • A chance to publish or present work (where appropriate) and strengthen your professional profile.
  • Potential pathway to a full-time role upon successful internship completion.
